Happy New Year !!!

Before the New Year, we often wish to leave the troubles and troubles of the past year, and the successes and joys for the new year.

But it doesn’t happen like that.

Everything will happen next year. Only we ourselves will be one year smarter. We will learn to look at adversity with greater wisdom, we will pay more attention to those around us, and we will value fellowship as the most direct way to solving all problems.

We will be one year bigger and more generous.
Happy New Year, my dears!

Jurbarka’s support for Ukraine

On the evening of December 8, the community of Samaritans of the Jurbarka region sent the second minibus with a support package to Vinnytsia region in Ukraine. Warm clothes, food, medical supplies will go directly to the front, some of the items will be distributed to civilians. The snow that mixed the sky with the ground last Thursday only strengthened the feeling of how necessary and important the joint work of the Samaritans and the international support fund “Glory to Heroes” is. According to Kristina Vančienė, chairwoman of the Jurbarkas Samaritan community, the support fund discovered Jurbarkas through the Lithuanian Samaritans organization. Eugenijus Bulgakovas, the representative of this foundation who came to Jurbarkas, is a Ukrainian living in Lithuania. Vinica was not chosen by chance, because Eugenij comes from this region, Žmerynka, which is primarily reached by the transport support, because it is not always possible to get directly to Vinica due to active hostilities. Ukrainians gathered in this support fund are constantly transporting the collected support to the Vinnytsia region.

Lithuanian Samaritans invite you to warm the Christmas of Ukrainian children

Do you know what is the most popular wish in the world this Christmas? So that there is no war. This wish will surely come true. But not now. And now Christmas can be warmer both here and in Ukraine, because kindness warms. And children, even in a war-torn country are children.

We invite everyone who can give a Christmas gift to the little Ukrainian. All the gifts you brought will be sent to Ukraine in a week. If you can, wrap the gift yourself and write on it: for a boy/girl and what age is appropriate. If you don’t have time for that, our volunteers will demonstrate gift wrapping skills.

We are waiting for your kindness:
in Klaipėda, Kelmė and Kėdaini Samaritan headquarters from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Christmas is a time of gifts. You can become Santa Claus for children who have lost their homes but still have dreams.

Lithuanian Samaritans taught to provide first aid: every person can save a life

The Society of Lithuanian Samaritans drew attention to the public’s lack of knowledge and skills when it comes to saving another person’s life in emergency situations. in 2022 on November 25-27, at the LITEXPO exhibition “Būkite svii”, professional doctors from Kaunas, Kėdainiai and Jonava, together with volunteers, taught and practically demonstrated to the visitors of the exhibition how to provide first aid.

“In Lithuania, there are still painful cases when people around you get lost in an accident and don’t know how to act to save a person’s life. Society lacks knowledge and skills, so we see the sense of sharing experience and thus contributing to improving the situation”, says Sonata Patkauskaitė, President of the Lithuanian Samaritan Community. “Life saving training took place at the stand of the Lithuanian Samaritans for three days, licensed doctors and volunteers were constantly on duty and taught life saving at the stand.”

The Food Bank campaign organized these days, when customers were asked to buy and donate products in stores, did not make the beneficiaries too happy. This year the donation is more modest.

The most fun days of zeppelins

In the canteen of the Kelmė branch of the Lithuanian Samaritans community, 48 so-called registered people and about ten random hungry people who have not got their documents in order, but are forced by trouble, receive hot soups and a second meal every day.

At lunch time they come to the canteen. He brings a couple of plastic buckets. The cooks pour hot soups into one, and a second dish into the other: porridge, pancakes, oat meatballs with sauce, and sometimes even boiled potato zeppelins with cottage cheese. There are a lot of diners on Zeppelin days. Some also bring friends, so-called picky eaters.

Saulius Mockus, chairman of the Kelmė branch of the Lithuanian Samaritan Society, says that the listed eaters are people who have prepared official documents: they have submitted an application, certificates proving their low income, a declaration of their place of residence in Kelmė, and the decision of the Social Support Department of the Municipality that they are entitled to support.

However, every day we have to feed at least ten people who do not have their documents in order, who have nothing to put in their mouths. They get to eat when there is soup left in the huge 40 liter pot. If there is no food left from the official diners, you have to return home with gurgling bellies. According to S. Mockaus, this rarely happens. After all, sometimes even official diners have more fun days – they have something to buy food with, so they don’t come to the charity canteen. Their portion can be given to the hungry and needy brothers of their lot.
