In the attic of kindness

Saulius Mockus, the chairman of the Kelmė branch of the Lithuanian Samaritan Community, invited him to take a look around the newly equipped premises in the Kelmė Samaritan Community House. He said: it is extremely fun that there are many wonderful and kind people in the ranks of the Samaritans who follow the motto of the entire Lithuanian Samaritan organization – “Let’s hurry to do good”. Thanks to the efforts of the Samaritans of Kelmė, in cooperation with the field gallery of Jurgita and Andrius Seselskas AJJU, the “Attic of Kindness” appeared in the house of the Samaritan Community of Kelmė.

The “Attic of Kindness” is a space where coffee and tea will be served, sharing not only the cake, but also thoughts, ideas about the Samaritans’ current and future activities, work, and the role of the family in all of our lives. Jurgita and Andrius Seselskai say that today’s period and the surrounding environment have a huge impact on a person’s understanding of what family means to him. Because of it, a person can become strong not in a physical but in a spiritual sense. The family can cultivate the feeling that only when your family members are happy and you feel happy yourself. In the Attic of Kindness, we want to create a family environment, share goodness through art and solve social problems. And Saulius Mockus, the chairman of the Kelmė branch of the LSB, reminds that the houses of the Samaritan community in Kelmė are also called the community houses of the district.

LET’S HURRY TO DO GOOD!

The people of Kelmiškis had to take into account both this slogan of the Lithuanian Samaritan community and the good work done by the members of the Kelmė branch, as it is not a one-time flash of any action, but a constant, targeted support to the people of the district. More recently, we have invited you to “Kindness Days”, now we have given walkers to those who really need them: as many as 45 walkers have been given – mostly to seniors or those waiting for knee or hip surgery. Such a beautiful job would not have been possible without the Samaritans of the German ASB RV Stormarn-Segeberg who brought them, without the Samaritan volunteers from Kelmiškis, who washed, cleaned and tidied up the walkers. S. Mockus, the chairman of the association of Kelmė branch, is also happy with the nice cooperation with Kelmė St. Parish of the Assumption of Mary: kleb. dec. liturg. lic. Mindaugas Grigalius announced this campaign during the services, and allowed a tent to be erected in the cemetery – the weather did not pamper the volunteers.

There are many more beautiful ideas in the Samaritans’ plans: children and young people are still waiting for board games, and so on. distribution of toys, other help and support work for the elderly.

2021 “Kindness Week” took place in the gymnasium on December 20-23. These four days were meant to remember those around us and feel the spirit of Christmas.

Monday is the day of the gift. Throughout the school, Samaritans laid out baskets of candy and students were invited to take the candy and give it to a friend.

Tuesday is Christmas Day. A poster hung on the front door on which high school students could write greetings and wishes to the school community. The young Samaritans also sent Christmas cards to the high school teachers and seniors.

The Lithuanian Samaritan Community is an organization that has been active for three decades and has more than a thousand volunteers.

The organization started taking the first steps in Kelmė. In this district, on the initiative of the elected member of the Seimas of the White Memory Antanas Račas, who worked in the Foreign Affairs Committee. 1991 In July, acquaintance with the German ASB (Samaritan organization) gave rise to the establishment of such an organization in Lithuania. The Samaritan organization was established in Šiauliai in 1992. On January 25, Genovaitė Karvelienė, the chairwoman of this department, successfully continued the activities of the Samaritans for 20 years.

Currently, the Lithuanian Samaritan Community unites 19 branches: Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Telšiai, Šiauliai, Radviliškis, Kėdainiai, Jonava, Ukmergė, Zarasai, Trakai, Vievis, Kaunas district, Jurbarkas, Raudone, Pakruojis, Kelmė, Marijampolė and Alytus.

Jubilee meeting of Samaritans in Šiauliai

2022 On January 28, a meeting of the Samaritans took place at the Pastoral Center of Šiauliai Diocese. This meeting was dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Samaritans of the Šiauliai branch. Sonata Patkauskienė, President of the Lithuanian Samaritan Association, senior Samaritans and young Samaritans came to the celebration. The meeting began with a kankle show, after which the students played a parable of the Good Samaritan, showing who the Samaritan is and what its real meaning is: hurrying to do good to the people in distress.

The President of the Samaritan Organization gave a congratulatory speech wishing not to get tired, to witness the love of his neighbor with his works, and to thank the Samaritans of Šiauliai. The seniors shared their memories of the meaningful activities of the Samaritans. He remembered that the Samaritans of Šiauliai provided assistance during the Second World War and that a large number of Samaritans in Europe to this day are paramedics. The older Samaritans rejoiced in the beautiful works of the younger Samaritans, wished for determination, a Samaritan spirit, and youthful enthusiasm. Young Samaritans are not only in our gymnasium, but also in Šiauliai Song and Romuva progymnasiums.

It was a cozy and meaningful evening where generations of old and young Samaritans met with words of gratitude and encouragement to travel the world with a compassionate heart and a sense of pride.

January 25th Day of the Lithuanian Samaritan Community

The Lithuanian Samaritan Community is an organization that has been active for three decades and has more than a thousand volunteers.

The organization started taking the first steps in Kelmė. In July 1991, on the initiative of Antanas Račas, a member of the Seimas of Light Memory elected in the district, who served on the Foreign Affairs Committee, acquaintance with the German ASB (Samaritan organization) gave rise to the establishment of such an organization in Lithuania.

Meeting in Kelmė in August of the same year, E. Bodendorf, S. Urbikienė, doctors Urbeliai, A. Narbutas, L. Radavičienė, J. Račienė and other members of the initiative group in the rectory together with the pastor V. Brusok agreed to establish the first Samaritan group elected doctor Urbelis.

The then member of the Seimas Antanas Račas undertook to initiate the formation of Samaritan groups in other Lithuanian cities. It was planned that after the unification of Samaritan groups from different cities, a Lithuanian Samaritan community would be established. This happened on June 15, 1992.

Currently, the Lithuanian Samaritan Community unites 19 branches: Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Telšiai, Šiauliai, Radviliškis, Kėdainiai, Jonava, Ukmergė, Zarasai, Trakai, Vievis, Kaunas district, Jurbarkas, Raudone, Pakruojis, Kelmė, Marijampolė and Alytus.

The branches of the Lithuanian Samaritan Community have established dozens of children’s day care centers, provide social assistance to the elderly and single people, and operate charity canteens and food parcel outlets. Each department, depending on the situation in the region, provides the services that the population needs most. Of course, all this would not be possible if there were no people in the organization for whom “Kindness” is not just a sound word.

Samaritan volunteers are people who still carry on their hearts the idea of ​​the Good Samaritan described in the Bible: helping man. It is such a way of life for the Samaritans not to pass by when they need help, not to look away with an outstretched hand. And it doesn’t matter at all: a child, old man, or someone who can’t cope with the challenges or circumstances of personal life needs help.

January 25 is the day of the Lithuanian Samaritan Community. This is a great opportunity to say THANK YOU to the volunteers, sponsors, department leaders, everyone who supports the Samaritan idea and contributes to the organization. At the same time, this day is a great opportunity to remind those whose existence and life is difficult: the Samaritans are in a hurry to do good, dare, seek help. We will be with you.

A Christmas surprise for the Samaritans of Kelmė

After the festive hustle and bustle, just before the New Year, the Samaritans of Kelmiai received gifts from their Samaritan organization ASB Stormarn-Segeberg in Germany. Until recently, the Mercedes Sprinter bus that served them. He came full of various toys for children, nursing equipment, protective helmets for Kelmė firefighters. Egidijus Ūksas, the deputy mayor of the district municipality, and Romas Atkočaitis, the elder of Kelmė, were pleased with the Samaritans’ cooperation. The long-standing friendship between the Samaritans of Kelme and Bad Oldesloe has lasted for more than a decade.

Older people are an equal part of society

In 2021, the Lithuanian Samaritan Community implemented the project “Older People – Equal Part of Society” funded by the Ministry of Social Security and Labor of the Republic of Lithuania. Vilnius, Kaunas, Kaunas district, Klaipėda, Alytus, Telšiai, Jurbarkas, Pakruojis and Kelmė branches were involved in the activities of this project. There was a “Generation Health Day”, a 2-day gathering – a camp. The activities were attended by 400 people and 10 children’s day care centers.

The Samaritans of Kedainiai received help before the big holidays

The Samaritans of Kedainiai received help before the big holidays. The beginners of the Vilnius “Tree of Knowledge” took care that there would be no shortage of sweet gifts. Many Christmas cookies, baked and decorated by the children themselves, came to Kėdainiai today, and a Christmas wreath made by the Samaritans of Kėdainiai went to Vilnius. The collaboration has just begun! The children will now bake Christmas cakes with their sleeves open. We learn kindness from an early age.

Support campaign “Share food with the poor” and education “Good to share”

To mark World Food Day, October. 26-28 d. The support campaign “Share food with the poor” and the education “Good to share” were organized by the Public Institution “Family Valgykla” (Patato Bistro children’s catering) together with the Kaunas branch of the LSB. The organizers of the campaign – lecturer Asta Pipiraitė and Regita Yakobchuk, an employee of LSB Kaunas branch, visited T. Ivanauskas Progymnasium, Rūtelė Primary School and Paparčio Basic School. During the meetings with the fourth graders, food waste was discussed in Lithuania, the children watched a video on this topic and could ask various questions about the activities of the Samaritans. This was followed by educational sessions, during which the children wrote, drew, glued and otherwise colored the wishes on the prepared biscuit packages. These cookies with beautiful,with warm and meaningful wishes we distributed at the food distribution point of Kaunas branch of LSB Partizanų st. 5, Kaune. In addition to these gifts, the school community also collected non-perishable food items, which we also distributed to our needy and cared for individuals and families. Rūtelė Primary School collected 315 units, Paparčio Primary School collected 42 units. perishable foodstuffs. Total collected products 357 pcs.
